Halo 2 Team Signs $1 Million Contract

Major League Gaming (MLG), the first professional video game league, announced that it has signed a four-man Halo 2 team to a $1 million dollar contract. This is by far one of the largest contracts paid out to a professional gamer. MLG also signed Tsquared, who is considered by some the best Halo player in the country. These contracts will guarantee that these gamers stay exclusives to the MLG circuit.
“Having a true professional league requires that you be able to identify, scout and sign the best players in the world,” said Sundance DiGiovanni, co-founder and CMO of Major League Gaming. “We’re constantly on the lookout for the next big stars. Our Pro Circuit competitions give millions of gamers a chance to qualify to compete for their opportunity to make big money and gain recognition on the world stage as a pro gamer.”
What does this mean for the gaming public? Will gamers be on boxes of Wheaties in twenty years? Will we cheer FRAAAAAGGGGGGGGGG!, instead of goal? It’s still too early to tell but considering how fast gaming is growing I would never rule out the possibility. I just wish MLG would start a Tetris league, and then I would kick some ass!
