Microsoft sends us some news regarding the Matchmaking/Gamespy service for Age of Empires:

Microsoft Game Studios and Ensemble Studios today announced that GameSpy is providing matchmaking services for Age of Empires, Age of Empires: Rise of Rome, Age of Empires II and Age of Empires II: The Conquerors. Players can use GameSpy to access a wide range of features including player created ladders, game specific forums, friends lists and easy to download patches. Users can download the GameSpy Arcade software directly at Uptilt. Gamers can enjoy the core matchmaking services from GameSpy free of cost. Premium services are also available. Once the software is downloaded, users will then need a valid e-mail address to register. Upon installation, GameSpy Arcade will scan the users computer for supported games installed and automatically populate the My Games list.

At first I misread this as Gamespy Matchmaking, as in a Gamespy dating service or something. It’s Monday morning and I need more coffee.

How much GameSpy has changed over the years. I rememeber when it first came out; back then it was QuakeSpy. Good to see there some kinda of matchmaking feature in it now.
