Game On!

The Pacific Science Center in Seattle, WA is now hosting the traveling exhibit “Game On!”. The show, which was assembled by the Barbican Art Gallery in London in collaboration with the National Museums of Scotland, consists of over 14 areas showing how geography and culture play a role in game development and illustrating how far games have come both artistically and technically.
All you really need to know, however, is that there are 100 games that are yours for the playing once you pay the admission fee. The games range in time from the very beginning (“Spacewar!”) to current portable games (“Brain Age” and “Nintendogs” are both represented. Nintendo is a sponsor, go figure.).
My favorite section happens to be the “Arcade” which has many 25 cent machines, two Space Invader tables and a MAME machine. I even did a test on the MAME Pac-Man to see if it was the original code and not, in Steve’s words “a rewritten piece of crap”.
(It’s the real deal. If you can hide your Pac under the right hand side of the”Tbar” while the ghosts aren’t chasing you and the ghosts ignore you, it’s the original code.)
The exhibit runs through August 31. If you’re in Seattle during the summer, I highly recommend dropping by PacSci.
