Grand Theft Mafia Father
I am well into the new Godfather game on the PC. I am shocked that it isn’t better then I thought it would be given that EA spent $800 million big ones and well, it’s the Godfather movie franchise, man! My first impression was that it’s so similar to GTA and Mafia that I now call it Grand Theft Mafia.
I liked the character creator aspect that they keep using in all their games now (Tiger Woods, LotR: BFME2 et cetera). I felt this was an integral aspect of the game. Without that, Godfather creeps even closer to Mafia and GTA. The cinematic cuts and character modelling/animation is pretty decent and true to the original movie in that regard. Although as IGN wrote, the game is missing a lot of actors, mostly the female actors! The ability to enter a lot of shops and extort them was neat, the process of watching your character grow into the family via respect and experience was also interesting. AI is just dumb, and the ability to lock on target to your enemies with your weapons makes it too easy to progress. I was digging the fighting system but found it hard to grasp. Switching between weapons and fist fighting was cumbersome.
Other than that, It just feels like a slightly better (in some ways) version of Mafia – which I loved and beat a few times over and over. Frankly the graphics aren’t all that hot and it’s buggy as heck. It crashed to my desktop once and cars/people would pop-up right in front of me. Magic! Where’s the draw distance there? Patch please.
Beh, I’m quite disapointed. I mean it’s not a terrible game, but it’s not a 9.0+ game either. I got my hopes up though and that was a mistake.
Next I play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion!!
