Actors and games

wowgaming.jpgReading the article about meeting Robin Williams and finding out that he plays Battlefield 2 got me thinking of similar experiences. Kev on The Archies transcribes a conversation he had with Robin while he was shooting yet another movie here in Canada. (He’s always here, especially in Vancouver).

Robin and BF2 reminded me of when I worked on Stargate Atlantis and SG1 last season. I thought, how many celebs or actors I saw running around played games? I wonder. I do know that Peter Deluise plays WoW. Peter was known for his role in 21 Jump Street and now directs episodes of Atlantis and SG1. He’ll sometimes play a small role in the show(s) and cameos on other shows as well. I never thought to bring up his WoW gaming when I chatted with him, because I just don’t play WoW.

It’s an interesting question though, how many celebrities are gamers out there? Does Keanu Reeves play The Matrix: Path of Neo? Does Jack Black play King Kong? Ok that’s probably too directly related. It’s too bad there wasn’t a way to find out which actor played what game. I wish I knew Robin’s handle in BF2. I play that game a lot and I’d like to see how he plays as a sniper. Maybe Robin is really good! Maybe he “pwns” all his allies. It’s not the same when someone yells “shooting!” in BF2, it doesn’t mean he can start acting out…well, sort’ve.

I have LOTR: ROTK for the GameCube. My brother, who isn’t actually a gamer, bought this game so we could play together. He had played it on the Xbox at a friend’s house. Anyway, in the unlockable extras, there is this interview bit where Elijah Wood says that he’s a big gamer.

Also, isn’t what-his-name… The guy from Pitch Black… Er… Yeah, VIN DIESEL. He’s a gamer. He’s an old school D&D gamer as well. I read that he had this special room in his house just for his D&D books. And he supposedly had input on the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay game.

I had a list of celeb gamers somewhere… Someone posted it on a forum. I am not sure whether I had it bookmarked or not, but I’ll check when I get home.

Cool, yeah if you find it lemme know and I’ll update this post with the list.

I loved Escape from Butcher Bay. Good game.

I guess actors have a lot of downtime. From travelling to relaxing between productions, games are good for that.

Only the bestest SG episode evah and probably the most singular screen time the Deluises got up to that point.
