Atari Game Code As Art

The brilliant Ben Fry is at it again. On September 20th I wrote about his “Mario Deconstructulator” simulation project which got some attention. This time Ben whips up another behind-the-scenes look at game code in a different medium. However this project was up before the Mario project (August 30th), but it’s news to me, so it’s new!

This picture shown above is Pitfall on the Atari. It displays executable code mixed with data like conditional statements and math. Each time there’s a “goto” command, a curve is drawn (grey lines in pic) from point A to B. I consider these auto-generated code images works of art myself. They would make great graphic design elements. Very cool.
