Windows Game Advisor or Fancy Spyware Tool?
Microsoft has just released the “Windows Game Advisor” which scans your computer and tells you what games you computer can handle, what games you may or may not like, reviews and a whole bunch more. I decided to give it a try because it’s web-based so I really liked that I didn’t have to install a damn thing. Although techincally it’s installing crap like cookies, Active X and Futuremark – it’s just hidden so people aren’t aware of it. I couldn’t run this on Firefox for obvious reasons so I HAD to switch over to IE. After installing Futuremark it gave me improper specs of my video card. I don’t have a 6800 Ultra, but a GT. Oh well, no big deal. It also told me: “Your system is among the top 5% of all systems scanned by the Game Advisor.” Really? I find that hard to believe but ok! At this point one can read reviews, search for games and Microsoft tells you the games that one could potentially play on their computer. There was only one the advisor had suggested for me: City of Villains. What about FEAR? You told me my computer was one of the best!
