Mobile Magazine has photos of a rather well designed “XBOX portable” protoype game machine called XBOX Velocity.

“To protect its delicate, ultrabright display, the screen flips up like the Nintendo DS’s. But the Velocity offers a PSP-size viewing area by expanding the screen to span nearly the entire base.”

It’s great industrial designs like these that get noticed. Maybe MS will take note and someone will have a job. If I may critique a little, I’m not fond of the extremely curvy sides. Otherwise, I like the concept.

    alltho Microsoft has seen this picture and taken it into consideration, This is not 2007′s XBox portable. BUT
    the XBox portable will have A flip up screen, and the base will be entireley a Touchpad, MS said that every game will come with a static sticker with printed buttons, the analog and D-pad controls will still be there. When me and my employees heard about this we immediatly thought of Nintendo’s “DS” combined with a PSP.IsMicrosoft getting jellous? We here think, YES!

    Oops forgot to mention that Xbox portable will not go public until the end of 2007. I only got a small bit of info on this new system.Even I have not seen so much as a sketch of the official one, But this “xbox velocity” still looks awsome if you just think of it as a concept pic.(even tho it isn’t)

    I like the idea, but i think that it doesn’t make sense at all. there are no USB or AV cable ports on it anywhere. does anyone think that microsoft would make a handheld system without Xbox 360 or computer compatability? i dont think so.

    First of all, you don’t need a usb port to be compatible with the 360. Did you ever hear of wireless sync, or bluetooth? Granted the 360 is not currently bluetooth enabled (last i checked), but that doesn’t mean that Microsoft can’t incorporate it later. Second, AV is not a necessity. Looking at the prototype screen, it looks pretty impressive, why would you want to play it on anything else? The design isn’t flawless, but it’s adequate for game playing. From here, it looks to be modeled after the original Xbox s type controller, which in my opinion is Thee most comfortable controller ever created.

    Yeah, tht looks sweat i would get tht any day but I’m not sure if this is on purpose but all of the anolog sticks are flat like the PSP and i dont liek tht also there should be like loads of things tht you can plug into this like cameras! Lastly i prefer the look of the other design tht lokks like a controller , if tht one was more flat liek this one i would buy it without another thought!

    me and my friend are designing one that has an ipod,camera,security camera,etc. its a X-box controler with a screen on top and a touch screen that has internet and you can buy apps.(ours is much cooler)
