I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

GW Sorrow’s Furnace: A Story to Really Cry About

Sorrow’s Furnace was released as a free expansion for Guild Wars just over a week ago, and I have been exploring… I have one quest left to do called “Final Assault” (trying to find people who don’t bicker when a level 28 Flame Djinn is attacking the party for 400 damage per hit is kind of tough). The other quests were tough, some of them were funny (especially the Killroy Stonekin (their version of Leeroy Jenkins) quest).

Along with the release of Sorrow’s Furnace, there was a new class of items, “Green” items if you will, introduced. These items are all godly (max everything on them) and have pretty much trashed the “Rare Gold” economy of the game. Gold items that were (pre-Sorrow’s Furnace) worth 40k gold are now for the most part just over 10k gold. Everyone and their dog is trying to go “Green”.

They have also made it so the invincimonk builds can’t do the Underworld solo in an effort to balance the game with the introduction of “Dying Nightmares”, who strip all the life saving enchantments from the Monk, and the Monk dies in one hit. That is another article unto itself: game balancing by punishment. Hint: to get around this take another Monk with Unyielding Aura, so if you die the first time, the Monk can pull you out of danger with Rebirth and then cast Unyielding Aura on you so that when you get stripped again by the various “Dying Nightmares” now placed throughout the level, you can continue on… to modify this suggestion bring a bow with you to pull the aataxe to you and then send the high health helper monk out to kill the “Dying Nightmare”.

To answer some common questions:

How do I get to Sorrow’s Furnace?

Head North from Camp Raknor until you find Grenth’s Footprint. There is a town in there called “Deldrimor War Camp” which allows you close access to the Furnace questing area. Another way is to head almost straight West from Granite Citadel.. I have tried this way, and the Camp Raknor way seems easier to me.

Did they put in any new quests besides the Sorrow’s Furnace quests?

Yes they did! Go to Draknor’s Forge and once in town head west from the storage and you will see a Stonehenge type place. /kneel and the head of Glint the Dragon will appear and give you the Titan quest series… Very difficult as many of the quests don’t allow you to have 8 people in the party (the Ascalon and the end one only allow 4!), though the missions are 8 people hard for the most part, especially the last one… oi.. -60% dp almost the whole final encounter…

Are “Green” weapons worth getting and what is a good price to pay?

In my humble opinion, they are worth getting, but I wouldn’t pay the farm for them. As they can’t really be customized, they aren’t really worth the same total value of a “Gold” weapon, but if they fit your build, you don’t really need to modify the item at all as they are maxed out. As for price, they have been jumping up daily, but realistically, since when they drop they are all the same stats, I would not pay more than 15k gold for any one item.

Now, here is my story to really cry about… During “Final Assault” we figured out how to beat the monsters and were fighting the last one when 3 of us got the dredded “err 7″ (lost connection). Now this quest is really tough and really long (we were like 2 hours in), if you try it you will know what I am talking about. The entire party lost the mission. I talked to one of the other disco’ed guys and he said he punched his computer so hard he knocked the Dell logo off it.

A word on the disconnects… I’m not sure what is happening, but Arena Net seems to be having a lot of problems. Seemingly the entire server network went down today, and the lag and disconnections have been awful since the update. Not sure if it’s an influx of new players or returning players, but it’s a bit perturbing to be constantly disconnected. Pretty much expect to lose one or two party members each time you head out for the time being. Keeping my fingers crossed it will be fixed quickly.

Well that’s my Sorrow’s Furnace wrap up, good luck to you all in the new quests! Seeya in the game!
