Grand Theft Art
I realize that the movie and the game industry are somewhat closely related. Games have more and more movie-like elements these days. Such as the fancy camera POV’s, soundtracks, actor voice-overs et cetera. And there’s a ton of game movies out there, so it’s quite common that the two work together on many levels. In fact, there was a movie out in 1977 called Grand Theft Auto. Maybe that was Ron’s first? But I thought these movie posters I found were taking it a bit too far perhaps. I came across a movie poster on the fabulous movie blog: Twitch. The movie – Maiku Hama: Private Eye, looked strangely similar to GTA: Vice City. I then came across a comment from someone who felt the same way and there was a link to another movie called Choque that looked oddly familiar as well. So I put the 3 together. This is not to say that Rockstar’s GTA series were the first to use the design style. I cannot put my money where my mouth is, but wasn’t there a 70′s show or movie that first used a very similar style with characters or whatnot, frozen in each box and the title in the middle. If anyone can figure that one out, let me know. I can almost swear I’ve seen that style a long time ago. Regardless, below are the comparisons to GTA and the two movies I spoke of. You decide:
