Wow…speechless. I just played the single player demo and I think it’s rather spectacular. WW2 FPS’s have always been my favorite genre of games on the PC. I’ve played and own every Medal of Honor and Call of Duty expansion. Not to mention Battlefield, Day of Defeat and many others. I am running a P4 3.2 Ghz, 1GB RAM and a Geforce 6800GT. I cranked up the settings at 1280×1024 (that’s all my BenQ LCD will support) and took this screenshot. The first thing I noticed aside from the improvements in presentation is the non-stop action. It’s like the film Terminator 3, only way better. CoD still had that super easy way of maneuvering and switching weapons, which I love. I’m glad they didn’t change that. I really felt like I was “there”, more than any other WW2 FPS shooter I’ve played ever, and that’s a big improvement. I’m still not finished this demo, I had to stop, talk about it and I look forward to talking about it more after I buy it.

On a side note, why are there no World War 1 First Person Shooters? I believe there was one game out based on WW1, but I can’t remember the name though. There’s too many WW2 games out there, a company should make one to add some diversity.

I think WWI was bit too much of a slaughter in the public imagination to make nice entertainment so games of this genre don’t work. ‘Going over the top’ a little one dimensional. WWII has more clearly defined ‘villains’ and ‘black and white’ politics. WWII lends it self to individual and smalls squad action that most FPS tend to focus on. While nice graphics and fast paced action may also be good to some extent, it is just not how war is or was fought. I would say for all there nice graphics they are highly un-realistic. You should try http://www.wwiionline.com for something that approaches a better reality of war. No blazing away like some drug fuelled Rambo in that. Its game play is far more team/side based and has realistic damage models. One hit as inf u pretty much dead. I gave up all those other games you mentioned and never looked back, they just don’t cut it in the end. (graphics are not as rich but game play is way better)

Thanks for the excellent comment Hect0r. I do agree with what you said in that the wave of WW2 FPS’s out these days are all guns-a-blazin’, unrealistic and just aiming to please – so to speak. I simply enjoy them for their entertainment value – as you stated. I will definetly check out that one you mentioned: wwiionline. It looks intriguing and it would be a nice change of pace. Cheers.
