This is me (above) just a little to close to some dude. I had the game set on “easy”, or else I’d be dead. Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport is a hyper stylized, action packed FPS from Kylotonn. You start out by loading up on weapons of your choice and picking a sidekick to tag along. They could be a sniper, mechanic, grunt etc. You’re given a certain amount of money to start off with and the more enemies you kill, the more cash you make for weapon refills and health. During the game, you can fill up your health and ammo at any Half Life-like healing stations.

The demo that just came out starts you off invading a base, killing anything that moves until a Mech decides to meander out of a hangar bay. I wasn’t keen on the animation of the robot, it seemed choppy and it appeared to stomp along to the beat of the music, which was kind of funny. Perhaps that was just my crazy imagination. Destroying the Mech will then allow you to progress onto the one-on-one battle portion of each stage, where you take on an enemy in an arena-like fashion. There are a few checkpoints where you could save your game, which I liked. I’m not big on hitting F5 every 10 seconds to save your progress. It only decreases your desire to play the second time. Some of the subtle details I really liked in BOS were the little grunts and whisper-like blurbs your player would murmur when he ran around, a nice touch. Also the enemies with shields and your sidekick Engineer healing you on command, if you pick the Engineer that is. The game play was smooth, no glitches too noticeable. Graphics were decent with nice textures on the models. I wanted to interact more with the environment, but that was limited to the usual gas barrels and doors, as far as I could tell. BOS sports the Ageia physics engine. Ragdoll was in full effect here. AI was just ok. I found I could easily outsmart them by doing circles around objects on the ground like a bundle of iron rods.

BOS: Blood Sport is an entertaining arcade shooter. It kept me interested and wanting to play more so I’ll most likely be picking this one up when it’s released. In the mean time, give the demo a try.
