The price of the XBOX 360 was etched in the proverbial stone yesterday. The core system is set at $299.00 ($365 in Canada) which include the console, one controller, a white faceplate and an audiovisual cable. For $100 extra, and I think this is a good deal, you get a headset, remote, membership to the Xbox Live entertainment and chat network, and a 20GB hard drive. The premium edition comes in a sleek cream colour while the core edition will come in a light green box.

My question is, are people really ready to shell out $300-$500 for another system? Did Microsoft wooh the crowds at E3 enough for gamers, and non-gamers to decide that they must have one? Were the games shown at E3 impressive enough to make you want one? Josh on Cathode Tan has an extensive view on the new system’s marketability and previous consoles’ success rate as well. On the positive side, It makes you think that a major event like this really does have an effect on the economy as a whole. One example is all the new jobs it creates, not just in the game development industry but other industries as well. It trickles down.

I would like to know from my readers how many of you are going to hand over their hard earned cash for a ’360 when the system comes out in November.
