Lose windows? Top Desk is your answer

    By Shane | August 28, 2005

topdesk.jpg Ok, not game-related but once in a wee while I like to show cool tools. Where did windows go? If you lose MS Windows, Top Desk can help you find it…no I’m kidding, not that windows. I’m talking about the windows in Windows. This tool is another example as to why PC folks want the XP to act like the Mac. There are a lot out there. Top Desk from Otaku Software is actually quite handy and I’m using it right now. Although the trial ran out and the app just mysteriously disappeared. It mimics the OSX’s window functions for minimizing or showing all the windows on the screen at once. Quite handy, I do say. Try it out.

*Update, Otaku Software had mentioned to me that the application doesn’t just disappear. So this doesn’t actually happen. I will have to investigate. Cheers.

    • There are a few Gnu/Linux implementations of Expose, as well. I've used Skippy, but I thought it was lacking on XFree86. I haven't tried the advanced X.org version, however.
    • I think it's a great feature and should've been on Windows a long time ago. What do you think of Vista now that we're starting to see videos, previews and screens of it? From the sounds of it, it's a glossier version of XP, with a few new features.

Hi Shane, I'm from Otaku Software. Great to hear that you find TopDesk useful. I'd just like to point out that the trial isn't time-limited, so it won't run out and disappear by itself. Maybe it's accidently been uninstalled? If it has, you can grab the trial again from our website, reinstall it, and use it as long as you'd like.
    • My apologies. I haven't had time to find out what actually did happen to it. It just all the sudden stopped working. So I will take a look and change my entry :-)
