Odd, unique, imaginative are the first words that come to my head when I found Akinori Oishi’s interactive game Opniyama, through We Make Money Not Art WMMNA has a link to an interview with Akinori as well. I’ll call this an interactive exploration of sounds, (you really do need to hear it)and shapes. You can manipulate an object or leave your mark. Choose to leave a spot suddenly and respawn somewhere else, leaving your last player where you left them. I don’t think the game has an ending, which is a new concept! You explore and swing around on your grapling hook and have fun doing it. Akinori has a blog here.

Opniyama was produced by Le Palais de Tokyo. A part of the Tokyo Games programme by Laurence Dreyfus.

HaHa. I was being facetious when I mentioned (above), that a game with no ending is a new concept. Hence the exclamation point. One example: ‘NDS Yoshi Touch and Go’ for the Nintendo DS. This fella’ seemed to take it personally when I wrote that. ;-)
